What is MDMA?
MDMA (3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) is a synthetic substance in the amphetamine class of compounds. It’s often referred to as ecstasy, molly, or X.
The man who popularized MDMA, Alexander Shulgin, first described it under the name Window for its ability to strip away our habits and biases — allowing us to see the world more clearly. He believed it would become important in the field of psychotherapy.
How Long Does It Take to Feel the Effects?
MDMA is usually consumed in one of two ways—in pressed tablet form, or in loose powdered form that is either rubbed onto the gums or occasionally, snorted. MDMA is measured in milligrams, with a standard dose being somewhere between 1.15 – 2.35 mg/kg. On average, 100 milligrams is a common starting dose.
When taken in tablet form, effects will begin in 20-60 minutes, with the entire experience lasting between three and five hours.
How Long Does MDMA Stay in Your System?
It’s important to remember that each person will detoxify at different rates and that these estimations are considered standard but are not always completely accurate for every person.
Urine
MDMA can typically be detected in urine for a period of one to three days after the last use.
Blood & Saliva
Blood and saliva : MDMA for approximately one to two days after the last use.
Hair Follicle
Chemicals, including MDMA, tend to persist in hair follicles for an extended period. The window of detection for MDMA in hair follicle tests can extend up to three months after the last use.
Key Factors
Each person’s physical composition and lifestyle will play a role in the body’s ability to naturally detoxify from chemical substances. The following factors can greatly influence detection time.
Age
Metabolism slows with age. People over the age of 65 have less blood flow to the kidney and liver—the vital detox organs. Because of this, detoxification often slows with age.
Weight & BMI
Many chemicals, including those found in MDMA, are stored in fatty tissues. For people with more fatty tissue, the metabolites can linger in the body for much longer than something with a lower BMI.
Dosage & Frequency of Use
The more people consume and the more often they consume it, the more metabolites will be present in the body.
Final Thoughts
Responsible MDMA use involves informed decision-making, self-awareness, and a commitment to minimizing harm to yourself and others. By taking proactive steps to educate yourself, mitigate risks, and prioritize safety, you can enjoy the potential benefits of MDMA use while minimizing its potential drawbacks.
